Hawaii Karate Seinenkai

Mizuho Mutsu (also known as Zuiho Mutsu and formerly known as Mizuho Takada) was one of the founding Shihan of the Hawaii Karate Seinenkai. He arrived in Hawaii on August 18, 1933, accompanied by Kamesuke Higashionna. At the time, Mutsu was the Shihan at the Tokyo Imperial University. He was a student of Gichin Funakoshi. He remained in Hawaii for about one month. During that time, he taught at various locations on Oahu. On Saturday, September 9, 1933, he and Higashionna, assisted by members of the Hawaii Karate Seinenkai, gave a lecture and demonstration at the Honolulu Civic Auditorium. Over 1200 fans attended. He gave many other demonstrations during his visit, assisted by Seishin Uehara and Thomas Shigeru Miyashiro, and is remembered in Hawaii as a true Karate expert and gentleman.The Hawaii Karate Seinenkai salutes Mizuho Mutsu and expresses its gratitude to him for coming to Hawaii to spread the art of Karate.
